Pest Control in Tacoma

Day and Knight Pest Control, owned by Dennis Day, is a full service pest control, management, and extermination company located in the tiny town of Ashford, WA. However, Dennis serves the entire Tacoma and Pierce county region, including Eatonville and Lakewood, as well as Puyallup. I had a problem in my basement with odorous house ants, and I got Day and Knight’s name from a neighbor, who had a termite problem earlier in the year.

I found out from Dennis that they handle everything from rodents, like mice and rats, to bats and bugs, including bed bugs. All I know is that I had a ant problem, and I don’t anymore. Dennis and his team even cleaned up the insulation damage that was done, and instead of having to replace the insulation, he did what he called “insulation decontamination,” which worked like a charm. No more ants, and my insulation is a s good as new!

I also learned that Day and Knight offers something called “Do It Yourself Pest Control,” which can really save a homeowner a lot of money. For folks who don’t mind a bit of effort, Dennis will put together a comprehensive plan, depending on the type of pest problem you have. He’ll make product recommendations, and even help you with scheduling and implementation. Call Dennis… you can’t go wrong!

Puyallup Salon

I really love and appreciate this place! All of the stylists (mostly women, but one man) are extremely nice, and Priscilla, the owner, is a very special person. The quality of the cuts and colors I get are outstanding. On top of that, they do lash extensions, waxing, and more. The salon itself is very state-of-the-art, very relaxing, and very clean and well cared for.

I have actually been getting my lashes done here for a number of years (5 or 6 at least) and they have just improved with age. I’ve got thin, dark hair that kind of needs special attention. Priscilla always asks me how my hair had been “performing” for me, and she takes the time, every time, to make sure I’m completely satisfied with every service I receive. I’ve seen them repair “crisis” situations when women come in from other stylists in town, with really bad cuts or damaged hair. they listen, then they fix it. It’s pretty amazing, really!

The stylists are all “up” on the latest techniques, too, so if you see something recent that you really like, come on in to Salon Cerna. They’ll make it happen!

Dolce Salon and Spa

Maegan is the BEST! I’ve seen her for the last few years, and every time I leave the salon, I love my hair and feel fabulous and like I am worth a million bucks and more. I found Maegan when I was in desperate need of a color change. I tried going from brunette to blonde and it failed. and she rescued me from m carrot top looking self, to a beautiful blood red. Over the last few years, she has successfully helped me navigate growing my hair in a way that it will come back healthier and thicker, and at no point did I ever have a moment with her where I wasn’t happy with the end recults. I’ve gone back and forth between different shades of reds and browns, and it always looks shiny and natural.

The place is very comfy with a air about that makes ya just want to sit down and stay a bit and chit chat about any and everything. The entire staff knows their stuff, and always willing to take the extra time to help someone with a hair emergency. They take pride in their work, and go the extra mile to ensure that every customer is treated like a best friend. Have yet to experience the spa part, but I have an appointment to have my toes done, and maybe see about having something else down to relax me. Easily the best in the area.

Narrows Plaza Bowl & Entertainment Center

Narrows Bowl2200 Mildred St. W.

One of the best places around when you just need a place to hang out, or a quick bite to eat. I have been coming here for some many years, it’s a part of my life. I remember my buddy, Mike and I going here every Saturday morning after we would get off the graveyard shift at Denny’s. We always started in the arcade playing a few games here and there from the massive amounts to choose from. Then it was off to play a few rounds of bowling. The lanes were always clean, and well taken care of. The cost was low, and made it nice to play for hours on end, and on specific days the leagues would play here. Lastly was always a round of mini golf, which was within the building itself, which makes it nice in Wa where rain comes in loads.

We would always finish the morning off with a breakfast in the restaurant. Their omelets and pancakes are to die for. Price are great, and portions are fair. Good time for the whole family.

Tacoma Nature Center

Tacoma, WA 98405
(253) 591-6439

It’s a nature conservancy to most people, a light hike with some nice indoor displays that help the kids learn more about the natural world around them. But for me personally it was a little place I could go to get away from all the troubles and strife from my high school days. A place that I could loose myself in and just day dream abou better days to come.

Its a cute little green oasis in the middle of town. A big elevated highway runs right along one side, and busy streets border it everywhere. But there’s a little lake with birds and toads and turtles and whatnot, surrounded by woods dense enough that you sometimes don’t even hear the traffic. The trails are flat and easy to walk–suitable for little kids and probably even older grandparents.

There’s plenty of parking and a little interpretive center with bathrooms and a gift shop. They also have terrariums with turtles and toads and other wildlife you can see up close. There are also some open spaces in the interpretive center; you can rent them for medium-sized gatherings. We threw a birthday party for my grandfather there one year. The rental was simple and easy, with lots of help from the people who were in charge. The day was one to remember.

By far another one of my favorite place I can find right here in my hometown.

Climb Tacoma

I am pretty new to this whole climbing thing, and I have been to a couple other places, but this is the first time climbing with out a belay system. Scared at first, and I found that it was challenging and fun at the same time. But what I got from it was the ability to challenge myself to do and give more then I ever thought I could, or had the guts to do.

The staff are super friendly here. Right there and willing to answer any questions you had before ou started your climb, and they knew the answers to questions that we needed to be answed. They were very knowledgeable about safty and made it their number one priority. The best part was that since I am still knew at the whole climbing world that I take extra offered information talk that they offer all new climbers. After I honestly felt like I knew more, and was more confident in climbing that day. I find that it is also one of the best ways to be able to climb safely on rainy days! Plus they have changing rooms that are spacious and very private.

I can’t wait to come back to experience it with my 9 year old for his birthday, I think that they have a well done kids climb with instructors that are ready and willing to show them the fun and exciting life of climbing. One of my favorite places to go in town.

Point Defiance Park

Point defiance park trail5400 N. Pearl St.
Tacoma, WA 98407

Growing up it was always nice not having to drive hours to get into the kind of wilderness and beauty Point Defiance offers. In fact, this place feels more like a National Park than a local park. We’ve been walking this park for as long as I can remember, and yet still find trails we haven’t been on. Not to mention that this place offers the most amzing veiws of wildlife and nature through all four seasons of the year.

This park offers so much, from a beautiful rose garden, to the kayak rentals at the beach, many lookouts and picnic spaces are ready for the use throughout the entire place, views of the Olympics and Mt. Rainier as well as islands and Commencement Bay are sights anyone could fall in love with. One of the biggest things there are the ferries to Vashon Island, which take you on a whole other adventure all together.

This place really is such a surreal magical forest! Even if you don’t get out of the car, the 5 mile drive is amazing, and a great way to relax as if you are far from the world, and yet yu are but moments away.

The only sad thing about Point Defiance is the zoo. In a time where we can stream high definition nature documentaries directly to our pocket computers, people are slowly moving away from the real thing. Though the zoo here is doing great work to bring more education and hands on experiences that no app can give.

Lakeside-Milam Recovery Center

3315 S. 23rd St.
Tacoma, WA 98405

My older brother was having alcohol and drug related legal issues. He started treatment at Lakeside-Milam per court order. In no time that turned out to be a life changing experience. The treatment program utilizes Medical, Psychological, Social and Spiritual approaches to teach the patients the tools to overcome the addictions. The center also offers free weekly Family Support Group to educate the family members about the diseases and provide the strategies (do’s and don’ts) to help the patients recover.

In addition, the counselors truly care about their patients. They always go extra mile to work with family member to address any concerns (or emergency situations). My brother initially attended treatment program in order to avoid jail time. Now, he has found not only the support system to keeps him clean/sober but also the mentors to help him plan for a better life in the future. I am happy to get my big brother back – thanks to Lakeside-Milam. It has changed my brother’s life, I am positive it can also change your love one’s life.

Personal & Pet Concierge

Tacoma, WA 98407

Pet Concierge LLC has been a second family to our dog, Jinx. Aside from watching him during the weekdays, they also always help up with boarding when we travel and are extremely accommodating to our schedules. We completely trust them with our dog, I can be gone for a week and know that I have no reason to worry under their care.

There have been two times where Jinx has been sick or needed something from the vet, and instead of us having to take time off work, they have actually taken him into the vet on our behalf. Would recommend them to anyone, their house/yard for the dogs is beautiful and well kept and their love for animals is apparent in their wonderful care!

Spanaway Upholstery

20025 Mountain Hwy. E.
Spanaway, WA 98387

This is a little family owned upholstery shop. They do however do some amazing work from simple rip repair in a car seat, to a full inside restoration of an automobile. They are know in the area for doing outstanding work when it comes to older vintage cars. They also do work on other things from boats, motorcycles, and even horse carriages. Being that they are a family owned little shop, you always get that special little family welcome, and feel.

The Wilson family work closely with their customers to ensure that the service they get is the way they wan it, and to their liking. Always giving 100% effort in their work, and doing it in a way that gives each project a little something special to be proud of. By far they are worth seeking out for best quality work.

Talk about a little diamond in the rough. I love this place. Weather you are looking for a quick stop somewhere for a tasty treat, or you want to do something special for a birthday or get together this is the place. They have a little shop that is just so warming, and welcoming that you could come and stay for hours in the friendly atmosphere, and enjoy the sweet scents of fresh baked cupcakes. They have so many different flavors to choose from. Everything from strawberry shortcake to a red velvet to die for.

The staff are friendly, outgoing, and just down right a happy bunch of people. During the holidays they do special flavors of cupcakes that go hand in hand with the season at hand. My favorite is to go in during the fall/Halloween season. Nothing better then a sweet pumpkin cupcake on a breezy Tacoma afternoon. Kudos to an amazing place and outstanding service.

Mary Mary’s Cafe

Meatlovers MaryMarys16511 Pacific Ave. S.
Spanaway, WA 98387

Just recently I had the pleasure of visiting this little cafe, that is hidden out along Pacific Ave. in Spanaway. My father had rented a large room in the cafe for the gathering after my grandfather’s funeral. When we first arrived the staff was very friendly and sympathetic to the reason for the gathering. The place had a kind of homey feel, but seemed to be very open. The decor on the walls were that of local freelance photographers. All of them for sale. The room we were put in was very cozy, and gave us the right amount of privacy.

I found that the food here was just what you would expect from a little hometown place. The portions were huge, and the drinks endless. The coffee was fresh and didn’t seem like it had sat all day. I ordered their Meat lover’s Omelet, and oh my gosh let me tell ya, AMAZING. Not to mention is was huge and the sides that come with it, where generous helpings. I left with a doggy bag. This little place has now become a monthly thing for me and my family to come together. And the prices are perfect.
