Growing up it was always nice not having to drive hours to get into the kind of wilderness and beauty Point Defiance offers. In fact, this place feels more like a National Park than a local park. We’ve been walking this park for as long as I can remember, and yet still find trails we haven’t been on. Not to mention that this place offers the most amzing veiws of wildlife and nature through all four seasons of the year.

This park offers so much, from a beautiful rose garden, to the kayak rentals at the beach, many lookouts and picnic spaces are ready for the use throughout the entire place, views of the Olympics and Mt. Rainier as well as islands and Commencement Bay are sights anyone could fall in love with. One of the biggest things there are the ferries to Vashon Island, which take you on a whole other adventure all together.

This place really is such a surreal magical forest! Even if you don’t get out of the car, the 5 mile drive is amazing, and a great way to relax as if you are far from the world, and yet yu are but moments away.

The only sad thing about Point Defiance is the zoo. In a time where we can stream high definition nature documentaries directly to our pocket computers, people are slowly moving away from the real thing. Though the zoo here is doing great work to bring more education and hands on experiences that no app can give.
